IJF Competition Manager Lisa Allan enjoyed Montreal
Judo is becoming less of a men’s game. Sunday, during the Montreal Grand Prix men’s +100 kg finale, a woman was refereeing the duel of French Teddy Riner and Japanese Hisayoshi Harasawa. British Dr. Lisa Allan is an important female figure in judo as the Competition Manager of the International Judo Federation (IJF).

Teen ace Tato Grigalashvili stars for Georgia
Georgia’s Tato Grigalashvili ruled the U81kg category at the Grand prix in Budapest as he swept aside world number 353 Joao Macedo (BRA) in the final. Judo Sogipa member Macedo, 27, the older brother of Rafael Macedo, world number 15 in the weight category above, was overwhelmed by 19-year-old Baku Grand Slam bronze medallist Grigalashvili who opened the scoring with an o-uchi-gari for a waza-ari and added a second from a trademark hip throw.

Mongolian Kherlen Ganbold wins back-to-back IJF event
Kherlen Ganbold of Mongolia recorded his second IJF World Judo Tour win in as many weeks as he responded to being left out of Mongolia’s team for the Worlds in the best possible way. At the Grand Prix in Budapest Ganbold trailed to Asian-Pacific Championships silver medallist Yeldos Zhumakanov (KAZ) by a waza-ari score but fought his way back into the final and subdued his Asian rival by ippon. Last week Ganbold became the Montreal Grand Prix gold medallist.

Canada moves forward with PanAm Games ahead
After the success of the Grand Prix in Montreal, Canada will be represented by 7 athletes at the Pan American Games held in Lima, in Peru, from July 26 to August 11. It will be a golden opportunity for athletes to live the experience of a major-Game tournament.
