Gulnoza Matniyazova about women's judo in Uzbekistan
On Saturday Gulnoza Matniyazova made history by being the first woman to win a first grand slam medal on home soil for Uzbekistan. The IJF Media Team met Matniyazova and explored her judo history.

Kenta Nagasawa defeats home favourite Bobonov in U90kg final
For three days, Uzbekistan has been chasing after its gold medal. On the second day, it was very close, but unfortunately Sharofiddin Boltaboev failed in the -81kg final against Italian Christian Parlati. The last chance therefore rested on the shoulders of Davlat Bobonov, winner of the Grand Slam in Düsseldorf in 2020 and having so far achieved a faultless day through the preliminary rounds. In the final he was opposed to Nagasawa Kenta (JPN), already winner of two Grand Slams in his career.

Matniyazova brings Uzbekistan joy while Arai takes gold
Not a surprise that Arai Chizuru of Japan came out as the winner U70kg for women at day two of the Grand Slam in Tashkent. The double World Champion and 21 time World Judo Tour medallist and top seed was focused. Arai confirmed that she was among the strongest of the category by entering the final against Barbara Matic of Croatia, already the winner of Grand Slam Hungary in October, that marked the comeback of the World Judo Tour after the Covid-19 outbreak.

Super Japanese team announced for Grand Slam Tashkent
The Grand Slam in Tashkent, from March 5 to 7 will have a strong Japanese team. Eleven athletes are selected. Shohei Ono is unfortunately missing as he originally planned to fight in the capital of Uzbekistan. Ono suffers a small injury to the left thigh.

IJF World Tour Heads to Tashkent for Grand Slam
In 2021, Central Asia will host one of the most prestigious judo tournaments. January 15 was the remarkable date on which the decision came about. On this date, the International Judo Federation (IJF), along with the Judo Federation of Uzbekistan, agreed on a contract. Hence, the world senior championships will take place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 2021.

Sharafuddin Lutfillaev receives honourable State prize
At 27 August World Championships silver medallist Sharafuddin Lutfillaev from Uzbekistan was awarded the State prize “Mard O’g’loni” – “Brave Son of the Motherland” - by Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Only three athletes have ever received this award, Lutfillaev is the first judoka in this elite club.
