Elena Dengg fourth ever Junior World Champion for Austria
At the Junior World Championships Austria won the jackpot on day three in Dushanbe, the first gold medal since 2011 was for Elena Dengg. The last time to win the world title in this category was Bernadette Graf.

Austrian trailblazer Bernadette Graf retires
Austria’s Bernadette Graf has announced her retirement of judo. After 25 years of judo, 10 of them in the absolute world class her body simply cannot support her for top sports.

Fabio Basile back to U66kg weight class
Former Olympic Champion Fabio Basile (ITA) has announced through his Instagram page that he is now back to U66kg. This phenomenon seldom happens. Once a player moves up a weight, they tend to stay there although we did see the great Ilias Iliadis flirt with moving up to -100kg during brief periods in 2012 and 2013. After that experiment, he moved back down to -90kg, where he stayed until his retirement after the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he crashed out after a shock defeat in the first round. Bernadette Graf did it quite recently with success in the beginning of both switches.

Bernadette Graf makes silver comeback U70kg
Austria celebrated two medals at the Grand Slam in Antalya on Saturday. The most remarkable was for Bernadette Graf back in U70kg. The 29-year-old stormed into the final on her comeback. She is 5-time European medal winner and three-time Olympian. She had fought in the class U78kg for the last five years, only had to admit a defeat in the final against 2019 world champion Marie Eve Gahie (FRA) with ippon (after tani-otoshi).
