Natsumi Tsunoda regains Tokyo Grand Slam title sevens years later
Japan’s Natsumi Tsunoda captured the gold medal at the Grand Slam in Tokyo. The triple world champion defeated Julia Figueroa of Spain in the lightweight final. She won in Tokyo in 2016 U52kg and this was her third Grand Slam victory in U48kg.

Julia Figueroa back on golden spot in Abu Dhabi
The final in the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi for women U48kg was between Julia Figueroa from Spain and Italian Francesca Milani. The Italian is taller and seems superior, but it is only an appearance and Figueroa has years of experience. Milani the Spaniard to attack and she did so successfully, scoring a fabulous ippon, winning her first gold on the world judo tour since 2019 and her first medal in Abu Dhabi, the only tournament on the circuit in which she had not won metal. All this comes a week after finishing fifth in Tashkent.

Two gold medals for Japan: Natsumi Tsunoda takes clean second world title
Of the four semi-finalists in the women's class U48kg in Tashkent, Natsumi Tsunoda was the favourite. The Japanese smoothly outclassed Kazakh Abiba Abuzhakynova and presented her credentials to retain the title. The other semi-final had Julia Figueroa as a resumé favourite and because she had just eliminated Funa Tonaki. Figueroa though lost against Katharina Menz.

Rivalry: Spaniards for bronze, Serbians lost in first round U48kg
At the Tbilisi Grand Slam U48kg tournament both Spanish fighters have reached the final block and are going to battle for bronze. Laura Martínez Abelenda is in the middle of the battle for the Olympic ticket with her rival and compatriot Julia Figueroa. The really surprising thing comes now, because when Laura agrees to answer our questions, she says the opposite of what many expect.
