Flagbearers in judo: Idalys Ortiz (CUB)
Idalys Ortiz, the legendary Cuban judoka, is set to captivate the world once more as she represents Cuba as a flagbearer at the Paris Olympic Games. Born in 1989, in Candelaria, Cuba, Ortiz has become a towering figure in the world of judo, both figuratively and literally, standing 180 cm tall. Her illustrious career started at the tender age of nine. Now she is a big woman, tip top on the mat and outside, nails nicely decorated in the flag of her country. Idalys Ortiz is the trailblazer for Cuban judo.

Riner has a complete other preparation as in 2021
Teddy Riner is 35 years old and about to compete in his 5th Games. Telma Monteiro (POR), Ryoko Tani (JPN), Robert VandeWalle (BEL) and Driulis Gonzalez (CUB) have five participations. Teddy Riner (FRA) and Idalys Ortiz (CUB) and can get equal at five.

Akira Sone concludes Japanese harvest with ninth gold
The incredible experience of Idalys Ortiz with four Olympic selections and four medals, including the last three finals and on the other side against the future of heavyweight judo, Akira Sone. As no-one could find a way to throw, the decision was made with penalties and Sone Akira won the 9th gold medal for Japan; an impressive harvest for the host country.
