Matthias Casse skips Europeans in Zagreb
Matthias Casse will skip the European Judo Championships to focus on his preparations for the upcoming World Cup and the Games. The decision comes as Casse, currently the world number 1 in the -81 kg category, opts to prioritize training for these major events. Mark van der Ham reunited with Casse and Flanders
Mark van der Ham returns as coach at Judo Flanders. The coach who achieved great successes from 2017 with Matthias Casse and Jorre Verstraeten, among others, made the move to the Judo Federation of Azerbaijan as technical director in 2022. In Azerbaijan Van der Ham didn't find the optimal connection that would lead to greater success in the Azerbaijan team. Van der Ham left the team by mutual agreement and got his hands free to further develop his Sport Institute De Korte.

Jorre Verstraeten starts qualification with clean sheet
In the category U60kg of the Grand Slam in Budapest at least, the two favourites met in the final. Belgian Jorre Verstraeten made his debut as first seed. The Belgian is not ungrateful and flew to the final, non-stop, based on ippon. It is seen that when he has an opportunity he takes it.

Mark van der Ham performance director in Azerbaijan
Trainer-coach Mark van der Ham set his footprint at international level in the world of judo. He captured two Olympic medals and won the senior world title, junior world title and several major championships with Roy Meyer, Kim Polling, Juul Franssen, Marhinde Verkerk, Guusje Steenhuis, Anicka van Emden, Matthias Casse and Jorre Verstraeten. Van der Ham is a good coach in all aspects: technical (also in newaza), organisational, passionate, experienced, communicative, easy going. Today he announced his new challenge as performances director in Azerbaijan.

Meet your Judoka: Jorre Verstraeten
At the Grand Slam of Antalya in April Belgian’s lightweight Jorre Verstraeten defeated former European Champion Walide Khyar of France in the final that produced fireworks. Verstraeten took another IJF World Tour gold medal, but it was just what he needed. The next event will be the Grand Slam in Kazan and World Championships and Verstraeten can afford not to participate at the Europeans where he took bronze last time in Prague. The IJF asked him on a reaction on twelve key questions.

Jorre Verstraeten shows Olympic level in Antalya
Belgian lightweight Jorre Verstraeten rules the men's U60kg category at the Grand Slam of Antalya. During the entire elimination phase, Walide Khyar did not acknowledge those trends and conscientiously, without making a major mistake, qualified for the final, a performance that reminds us of his route to the final in Abu Dhabi in 2019.
