Zelym Kotsoiev still dreaming
Zelym Kotsoiev of Azerbaijan has achieved his dream by becoming an Olympic champion. Reflecting on his victory, Kotsoiev expressed his overwhelming joy and disbelief at his achievement, saying, “It has been my dream to become an Olympic champion, and today I have made it come true. I am feeling great, amazing, euphoric. I have thought about this many, many times, and it took me a while to get here, and now it’s like a dream and I do not want to wake up.”

What an incredible day for the eight judokas on the podium. There were seven smiling faces, but the final was hard to digest for Ilia Sulamanidze, who lost his lead in the last half-minute. This led to the Hungarian referee giving him two shidos, allowing Zelym Kotsoiev to secure Azerbaijan's second gold medal of the week. After Hidayat Heydarov's victory in the -73kg category, Kotsoiev added to his world title with Olympic gold, marking Azerbaijan's third-ever Olympic judo gold.

Zelym Kotsoiev World and Olympic Champion, Sulamanidze forgets to win
The men's U100kg final at the Paris 2024 Olympics was a technically, tactically, and emotionally charged match between Ilia Sulamanidze of Georgia and Zelym Kotsoiev of Azerbaijan. From the start, Sulamanidze appeared to be the more dangerous competitor, finding ways to unbalance world champion Kotsoiev with relative ease. Sulamanidze scored the first waza-ari and shifted to a defensive strategy to maintain his lead.

Current senior top athletes won European title in cadets in 2015
The Cadet European Championships 2024 in Sofia will feature 276 young men in 8 categories over three days. Bulgaria, already hosting senior European titleholders like in 2015. Some of the Champions in Sofia in 2015 were Manuel Lombardo, who now will fight for a gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games. Also champion in Sofia in 2015 were current world champion Zelym Kotsoiev (fighting for Ukraine) and Inal Tasoev, the current heavyweight title candidate.
