Judo Austria Welcomes Olympic Medalist Jozef Krnac as New Base Trainer
Starting in November, 2004 Olympic silver medalist Jozef Krnac will join the Austrian Judo Association (ÖJV) as a base trainer in Südstadt. Krnac, who earned his medal in Athens in the -66 kg category, will focus on training junior athletes within the school model and provide personalized training for selected national team members, including notable judoka Movli Borchashvilli, Bernd Fasching, and Stephan Hegyi.

Stephan Hegyi is back with Austrian title after grueling injury
After a grueling 622-day recovery period from two ACL tears and an Achilles tendon rupture, Austrian judoka Stephan Hegyi has made a triumphant return to competition. The 26-year-old from Vienna captured the heavyweight title at the Austrian National Championships in Feldkirchen, defeating top-seeded and defending champion Movli Borchashvilli of Allianz Kukla Galaxy Tigers with an Ippon in the final.

Stephan Hegyi injured and one year out again, no Olympics
Austrian heavyweight Stephan Hegyi will have year take a year off after another injury and won’t be able to qualify for the Olympic Games anymore. Hegyi: “But I’m not giving up, I want to try again at the Olympics in 2028,” says the 25-year-old combatively.

Unlucky Stephan Hegyi again injured
The unlucky streak of Austrian heavyweight Stephan Hegyi continues: The 24-year-old was out of action for more than nine months last year due to a torn cruciate ligament (on his left leg) and now suffered an ankle injury in the run-up to the Grand Slam tournament in Tashkent (UZB). Examinations in Vienna have now diagnosed a ruptured Achilles tendon (on the right leg). Hegyi will have to undergo surgery on Wednesday and will be out for a good three months.

Stephan Hegyi six month break after knee injury
One of Austria’s most promising judoka, heavyweight Stephan Hegyi suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee at the training camp in Nymburk in the Czech Republic and had to undergo an operation in Vienna this week. The 23-year-old from Vienna will have to take a break of at least six months - i.e. he will be out of action for the European Championships in Sofia at the end of April.
