Szofi Ozbas surprises with Grand Slam winner in U70kg
The Grand Slam Baku final for women U70kg opposed Szofi Ozbas (HUN) and Serafima Moscalu (ROU). Ozbas was the first in action, with a seoi-otoshi for waza-ari. She was close to being strangled in the follow up of her movement, but she resisted. She then scored time for yuko and concluded in the floor for ippon. Amazing performance in an new category, same effort but other category for Jessica Klimkait who stepped up one division.

Jessica Klimkait shows her golden skills in U63kg
The final opposed the newcomer in the category, Jessica Klimkait, and Minami Aono (JPN). Always attacking first with her seoi-otoshi, Jessica Klimkait pushed Aono to be penalised. Even if she seemed to be a little less powerful than her opponent, which can be explained by the change of category, the Canadian was always moving. With 1 minute and 14 seconds to go, the Japanese athlete was logically penalised a third time. The gold medal was for Klimkait at her first big competition at -63 kg.

Stunning field U57kg in Paris
One of the most spectacular weightclasses at the Grand Slam in Paris will be the U57kg division. On Friday the event will include three world champions: Christa Deguchi, Jessica Klimkait and Rafaela Silva as well as two Olympic champions Nora Gjakova and again Silva. They are spread evenly through the 4 quarters of the draw and in theory could be the four semi-finalists at the end of the preliminary block. However, we haven’t yet mentioned the big names punctuating the rest of the group and the list includes world and Olympic medallists in spades.
