Giliazova catches another Grand Slam gold
The first known final of the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi was in the U48 kg category, with a contest between Andrea Stojadinov (SRB), winner of the Tashkent Grand Slam 2023, and Sabina Giliazova (IJF), finalist in Kazakhstan earlier in the season. For both athletes a win would mean a second grand slam gold medal as Giliazova also won the Tashkent Grand Slam in 2024.

Andrea Stojadinov’s return to form
Last year was annus horribilis for Serbia’s Andrea Stojadinov. She had ended 2021 on a high note, winning gold at the European U23 Championships in Budapest. But she began 2022 badly, crashing out in her first match at the Almada Grand Prix. Throughout the year, she would compete in several more IJF events as well as the World Championships (where she also exited after her first match) but she failed to medal in any of those events.

Andrea Stojadinov back in the driver seat
Serbia’s Andrea Stojadinov became the winner of the women’s U48kg class at the Grand Slam in Tashkent. What a relief for the super talent that suffered so much last two years and had to skip the Olympic Games. She was twice world junior medallist and three times grand slam bronze medallist, and she did the best and offered herself a first chance of gold medal in a Grand Slam in Uzbekistan, where she was successful previously, this time with gold.

Andrea Stojadinov skips the Olympic Games
Andrea Stojadinov will skip the Olympic Games. Despite the fact she is qualified she had to make a tough choice not to go to the Olympic Games in Tokyo due to an operation after a dislocated shoulder. Milica Nikolic is qualified for Serbia as well and will eventually go the Tokyo.

Shirine Boukli remains hopeful on Olympic dream
Shirine Boukli eventually wasn’t even selected for the French team for the European Championships in Prague. Posvite had to witdraw from the Championships and Boukli was added to the team. Not a bad alternative as Boukli captured the gold medal and continued her success at senior level after she won the Düsseldorf Grand Slam in February. She gave Bilodid her toughest fight of the year in Paris and in Prague she defeated Andrea Stojadinov in the European final. Oon Yeoh of JudoCrazy interviewed Europe’s best U48kg.

European Junior champ Andrea Stojadinov gets mature
On Wednesday Serbian lightweight Andrea Stojadinov was able to win the European Junior title. Last week in Budapest she defeated Paris finalist and Düsseldorf winner Shirine Boukli for bronze. Stojadinov seems to pick up the pace in at junior and senior level. An amount of points will help her to reach the Tokyo Olympic Games. The efforts of last spring in her own little pink dojo with her brother pay off. Oon Yeoh of JudoCrazy asked her how she prepared for this success.
