Barbara Matic sets Croatian judo hearts on fire
Split is on fire today as their hero Barbara Matic has won gold, marking the first gold ever in Croatian judo. The two-time world champion handled the pressure and expectations brilliantly. Matic, the world's number one, kept the German Miriam Butkereit at bay. Butkereit, reminiscent of Kerstin Thiele in 2012, settled for silver but had an excellent day.

Miriam Butkereit finally takes gold in the IJF World Tour
In the U70kg category in Paris, the public once again had the opportunity to make their thunderous voices heard. In the end though the crowd was silenced by Miriam Butkereit who won 18 World Cup medals, 14 in the IJF World Tour, but for the first time she took the gold medal. What an event to do it.

Barbara Matic handles the pressure superior
Croatian World Champion Barbara Matic resolved all her fights with poise, without suffering, being superior at all times. Matic defeated the Hungarian Szabina Gercsak, the German Sarah Maekelburg, the Spanish Ai Tsunoda Roustant and the Australian Aoife Coughlan. The last hurdle to make the public delirious was German and her name was Miriam Butkereit.

Saki Niizoe the coolest in Budapest U70kg
The division for women U70kg in Budapest was a roller coaster. The Puerto Rican Maria Pérez had the luxury of defeating the first seed, the Dutch Sanne Van Dijke, before being eliminated at the hands of the German Miriam Butkereit, who in turn had beaten the British Kelly Petersen-Pollard. World champion Barbara Matic was delighted, calmly advancing through the tournament until she lost to Japan's Saki Niizoe
