Winners of Portugal make first steps into the World Ranking for 2023
Ilia Sulamanidze (21) won the Grand Prix in Portugal and rose steady as number one of the IJF World Ranking in the U100kg weight category. Lukas Krpalek of the Czech Republic earned himself 350 points towards Olympic qualification with a bronze medal, placing him in 84th place. Korean Lee Joonwhan reached 8th place in the U81kg class after his victory. Brazilian Heavyweight Rafael Silva (35) won bronze, moving up from 9th to 7th in the World Ranking. Mongolian Odkhuu advanced from 8th to 7th even with his bronze medal.

Krpalek is fishing for that third Olympic medal
Definitely a surprising step taken by Lukas Krpalek. The double Olympic Champion made a choice by the heart to go back in this favourite class U100kg where he became world and Olympic Champion (as well). It might not be so easy to step back more than 10kgs as his physique was always his greatest weapon. He is one of the tallest athletes in the world along side Rafael Silva and Teddy Riner. He improved on his his groundwork though and his level of ground fighting is top class.

Guram Tushishvili confirms second Georgian gold
It was two regulars at major international events and collectors of medals who found themselves in the final of the Grand Slam in Tel Aviv. On one side, the Brazilian giant Rafael Silva, twice an Olympic medallist and multiple world medallist. On the other, strong and as fast as lightning, was Guram Tushishvili of Georgia, 2018 world champion and silver medallist in Tokyo last year. A clash of the Titans was in view.
