Elvismar Rodriguez cannot complete third Olympic Games
Elvismar Rodriguez from Venezuela, has faced numerous challenges throughout her career. Despite being in a position to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, she will not represent Venezuela in the -70kg division. Over the years, the International Judo Federation (IJF) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have invested in her development, recognising her as a talented and dedicated athlete. Her journey includes competing in the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and winning a bronze medal at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing. For the Olympic Games in Paris though she is suspended for missing her whereabouts.

Komei Kawabata world champion in a mature weight category U90kg
The two finalists in the U90kg category of the Junior World Championships in Odivelas Portugal were not really surprises. On one side we found Vugar Talibov of Azerbaijan, the world number one, silver medallist of the last junior European championships and winner of the Youth Olympic Games in 2018 in Buenos Aires. Being a sure bet in the category, he did not succumb to the pressure linked to his rank and eliminated Rares Arsenie (ROU) in the first round, then Umedjon Rajabov (TJK) and Maksims Duinovs (LAT), before destroying the hopes of a final of Aaron Santamaria Rodriguez (ESP) in the semi-final.

Aiofe Coughlan wins her first Grand Prix outside Oceania
Venezuelan Elvismar Rodriguez was successful today at the Grand Prix in Porugal and faced Aoife Coughlan (AUS) for the gold medal. Rodriguez has been the leader of her team for quite a while. Looking at her prize list gives a good idea of it, since she already has nine grand prix medals to her name, nine grand slam medals and seven medals at the continental championships in Pan-America; quite something! But Rodriguez is still looking for the consecration at the world championships, Masters and of course Olympic Games. This new medal, whatever the colour will be a new step towards that goal.
