Anna-Maria Wagner announces Retirement from Judo in 2025
Double World Champion and Olympic bronze medallist Anna-Maria Wagner has officially announced that 2025 will mark the end of her competitive judo career. The 27-year-old German fighter shared the news on her social media, expressing that the time had come for a new chapter in her life.

Ballhaus sister podium take-over in Linz
The last category of the first day in Linz delivered some great judo again. In the final U57kg, Mascha Ballhaus (GER) cancelled out Nika Tomc’s (SLO) first attack, which had come immediately after ‘hajime,’ transitioning without delay into ne-waza. The German Olympian applied a shime-waza that was unforgiving, earning a submission and a gold medal that Ballhaus was clearly happy with. Despite the loss, Tomc now has her first World Judo Tour medal and it is likely not to be her last!

Pedro Guedes men's coach in Kosovo
Kosovan judo enforced the coaching team with a men’s national coach. Another an interesting project from the Kosovo Judo Federation, the Kosovo Ministry of Sport and the Olympic Committee towards LA 2028. The new men’s coach coach under head coach and sport direct Toni Kuka is Pedro Guedes, former coach of the German men’s team.

Anna-Monta Olek strikes gold in Baku
The -78 kg category at the Grand Slam in Baku has often seen domination from German judoka in recent years. German Judo federation welcomes new Vice President Laura Vargas Koch
Prof. Dr. Laura Vargas Koch has been appointed as the new DJB Vice President of Competitive Sports. Laura Vargas Koch is known above all as an extremely successful athlete. She won bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, was Vice World Champion in 2013 and won many other medals at European Championships and in the IJF series. The athlete, who has been doing judo since she was seven years old, is also well known for her straightforward training alongside high-performance sport. She studied mathematics, wrote her doctoral thesis and is now a professor of mathematics at the University of Bonn.
