Tbilisi’s a charm for Melanie Legoux Clement
France’s Melanie Legoux Clement has two IJF World Tour gold medals. The first one was achieved in Tbilisi in 2019 and her second one was achieved, also in Tbilisi in 2022. Legoux Clement, 30, ranked third in the IJF World Rankings, has in recent years been overshadowed by her younger compatriot, Shirine Boukli, who is 23 years old and is No. 1 in the IJF rankings.

Melanie Legoux-Clement back for gold
At the Grand Slam in Tbilisi French lightweight Mélanie Legoux-Clément had no doubts but winning a gold medal in this edition. Top seed Mélanie Legoux-Clément has experience to dish out but at thirty years old she is not quite as regular as she should be and feels the pressure, already evident, from the new generations. The French judoka could not improve, or even match, the bronze medal obtained at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam last year. Georgia was the opportunity to recover sensations and claim the right of the elders to continue winning.

Wakana Koga takes lightweight gold for Japan
The category U48kg at the Grand Slam of Paris was largely dominated by French athletes, since only Mélanie Vieu was blocked in the preliminary rounds, while the other three climbed on the podium. The day would have been perfect if the Japanese judoka, Wakana Koga, had not slipped in the middle to snatch the title from France. The latter quickly imposed her power against Mélanie Legoux Clément and pinned her down to make the Japanese anthem resonate in the Accor Arena.

Will Daria Bilodid move up to U52kg?
In August 2017, Daria Bilodid (UKR) lost to Otgontsetseg Galbadrakh (KAZ) in the preliminary rounds of the 2017 Budapest World Championships. After that defeat, she had an incredible winning streak that last until March 2019, when she unexpectedly lost to Melanie Clement of France in the 2019 Tbilisi Grand Prix.
