Who are the men to watch at the Grand Slam
At U60kg, Yang Yung Wei (TPE) is the main man to look out for. The main players to watch at U66kg are Denis Vieru (MDA) and An Baul (KOR). Big throwers Tal Flicker (ISR) and Baruch Shmailov (ISR) are always exciting to watch.

Baskhuu Yondonperenlei again superb for Mongolia
At the category U66kg world number one and Olympic silver medallist Baul An (KOR) went through the preliminaries of the Grand Slam in Paris without major difficulties to face Baskhuu Yondonperenlei (MGL), fifth in the world and on fire since the morning, with a significant win against Vazha Margvelashvili (GEO) in the semi-final.

Denis Vieru starts the year where he ended in 2021: winning
Being world number one, bronze medallist at the Tokyo Olympic Games and world champion in 2015, not to mention his two victories at the World Masters, Baul An (KOR) was not only one of the favourites but was the number one favourite of the competition. However, it was not him who found himself in the final against the other top seed of the tournament, the Moldovan Denis Vieru, who had pretty tough matches to reach the final.

Who are the top male judoka of the Grand Prix Portugal
With 179 men the Grand Prix of Portugal has some great top athletes in Almada, close to Lisbon on the other side of the bridge. In a total field of 301 athletes, this weekend can kick-off with some major confrontations. There are some illustrious name on the roster, such as the first two in the world ranking at U66kg, the Korean An Baul and the Moldovan Denis Vieru. This smells like a high karat ending. The Belgian and world champion, Matthias Casse, appears as the clear favourite at -81kg; we will see how he is doing.
