Jorge Fonseca regains the title in Antalya
The final for men U100kg in Antalya never took place. A few months ago Shady Elnahas suffered a rib injury which disabled him for a while. “The result is there, the points are there and the manner is there. During the elimination phases, a slight pain arose in the rib and Shady did not want to take any unnecessary risks just two months before the Olympic Games,” explained coach Antoine Valois-Fortier. Jorge Fonseca regained the title in Antalya that he won in 2022.

Nikoloz Sherazadishvili earned his support and Tbilisi gold
The final for men U100kg in Tbilisi was a duel between Nikoloz Sherazadishvili, supported by the public, and a vengeful Shady Elnahas that we witnessed in the final. Big attacks could be expected. Sherazadishvili started as earlier in the day, with some difficulties putting his hands on his opponent's judogi, while Elnahas was attacking more but the Canadian's uchi-mata that came after this observation round was not prepared enough and against an athlete of the caliber of the double world champion, you can’t afford any mistake.

Shady ElNahas captures Pan American title U100kg
Shady ElNahas found himself in front of a raucous, hostile crowd as he competed in the U100 kg final at the Pan-American Games in Santiago. The enthusiastic fans were cheering for Chile’s Thomas Briceno, the nation’s first judoka to reach a final since the judo tournaments began.

Michael Korrel marries Paris
Number 1 seed U100kg, Dutchman Michael Korrel forged a path through all obstacles in Paris, including a French quarter-final challenge. He continued past Toma Nikiforov in the semi-final and looked set to win a confident gold. Zelym Kostoev (USE) was to be his adversary after he disposed of Kurbjeweit, Liparteliani and Veg (HUN) before throwing Kotsoiev (AZE) and then Elnahas.

Russians again dominate U100kg category but Adamian is unbreakable
When the Russians want to be, they can be relentless. Arman Adamian and Matvey Kanikovskiy neutralised an entire battalion of elite troops in the always tricky –100kg category. It is true that Adamian was the favourite, but it is no less true that he had to face Belgian Toma Nikiforov, who has been on the rise since he recovered from a serious injury. Nikiforov may be fearsome, but today Adamian is out of Nikiforov’s reach. A special mention for Kanikovskiy because he got rid of the French Alezandre Iddir, the Dutch Michael Korrel and the Canadian Shady Elnahas, that is, the past, present and future of judo. None of them could stop the Russian in Abu Dhabi

World class players U100kg in Abu Dhabi
The category U100kg will be very attractive to see at the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi. With some world players and in house the numbers one and two of the IJF World Ranking, this can be mentioned as a clash of the season finale. With Arman Adamian (RUS) and Shady Elnahas (CAN) on the rostrum, Abu Dhabi again delivers a nice field. Dutchman Michael Korrel, for some years the World Number one himself is back after an injury and deception at the Olympic Games and Belgian star Toma Nikiforov who managed to qualify for the Games afterall, can give his season a glance.
