Flagbearers in judo: Nora and Akil Gjakova (KOS)
In a proud moment for Kosovo, siblings Akil and Nora Gjakova will carry the flag for their country at the Paris Olympic Games. The brother-sister duo are among three sets of siblings competing in the judo tournament, making their participation a special highlight. Nora Gjakova, who will defend her Olympic title in the U57kg category, and her brother Akil, a former European Champion, will aim to make their mark in the U73kg division.

Akil Gjakova and Eteri Liparteliani emerge in Kosovo
In the men's U73kg final at the European Open held in Kosovo, former European Champion Akil Gjakova emerged victorious, defeating Manuel Lombardo. Nora Gjakova, Distria Krasniqi, and junior Dardan Cena secured bronze medals in their respective categories. Head coach Driton "Toni" Kuka expressed astonishment at Gjakova's exceptional performance, particularly his victory over top-ranked Hidayat Heydarov en route to the final, describing it as the key to success.

Shakhram Ahadov books first foreign Grand Sam victory for Uzbekistan this year
An exciting Grand Slam final U73kg awaited spectators in the Jiu-Jitsu Arena, Zayed Sport City, between Akil Gjakova (KOS) and Shakhram Ahadov (UZB). Perhaps not quite at the pace we were waiting for, each looking to pressure on the grip. At two and a half minutes into the contest Gjakova came close to scoring, the first real attempt of the fight, but in the same moment the coach had to be asked to leave. This is always a last respite b it the rules on coaching are clear and it is important that everyone accepts the rules, to be fair to all. It was the first gold medal for a male judoka this year at a Grand Slam at foreign ground.

LZ Multikraft Wels win final four in Austria
For the first time since 2013, the champions of the 1st Judo (men's) Bundesliga are not from Vienna. LZ Multikraft Wels - led by Olympic medalist Shamil Borchashvili - beat series winner Galaxy Tigers 8: 6 in a new edition of the 2019 final and won the first title in 44 years (1977). The three Borchashvili brothers, the Georgian Olympic silver medalist from Rio Varlam Liparteliani and European champion Akil Gjakova (KOS) shone in the ranks of Upper Austrians.
