Udo Quellmalz Joins German Judo Federation as U21 Women’s National Coach
Udo Quellmalz will be coach the German U21 women this year. Quellmalz, a legendary judoka and accomplished coach, who won Olympic gold in 1996 in Atlanta and is a two-time world champion (1991 in Barcelona, 1995 in Chiba), is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of young talent in Germany.

Wesley Greenidge becomes Three-Time British Heavyweight Champion
The British Judo Championships took place over the weekend of December 14-15, with Wesley Greenidge amongst the gold medal winners. The heavyweight, who won the British title in both 2021 and 2022, made up for missing out on gold in 2023 by prevailing in the heavyweight category once more.

Krzysztof Wilkomirski Elected President of Polish Judo Association
Krzysztof Wilkomirski has been elected as the new president of the Polish Judo Association. A decorated judoka, Wilkomirski won a bronze medal at the 2001 World Championships in Munich in the U73kg category and secured another bronze at the European Championships in Düsseldorf in 2003.

Yeldos Smetov earns crown on his career
Yeldos Smetov was one of the serious contenders for gold in Paris 2024. He was after all, a former World Champion and a double Olympic medalist. He’s also a former Asian Games champion and has won seven gold medals in the IJF World Tour. But at 31 years of age and unseeded at No. 22, he was past his prime.
