Uzbek Umar Bozorov surprises the elite U90kg
The final for men U90kg in Tbilisi opposed Umar Bozorov (UZB) and Alexis Mathieu (FRA) and it was a brilliant contest with Mathieu taking the lead with his o-soto-gari for a yuko. But then Bozorov took the advantage with a rapid reverse kata-guruma for waza-ari. Alexis Mathieu, who seemed to have better control, threw his opponent with a massive ippon-ko-uchi-gari, but while executing it, he clearly touched the leg of Bozorov and the ippon became a shido. A last attack from the French judoka was not enough and Bozorov won his first grand slam gold medal.

Old rivals in new weight Silva and Toth in U100kg final
Two great champions, who until recently fought at -90 kg, stepped into the arena to fight for gold, having dominated the incumbents throughout the day. Krisztian Toth (HUN) and Ivan Felipe Silva Morales (CUB). Toth leads their -90 kg head-to-head tally, 2 wins to 1. It took two minutes of extra time that Silva Morales won on penalties, being the more active of the two competitors. This is Toth’s first medal in his new category, Silva Morales’ first gold there too.

Esposito brothers take-over after first gold for Giovanni
Today was the show of the Esposito brothers from Napoli. Both had never won a gold medal together, but today in Linz brother Antonio prolonged his title in Linz and younger brother Guivanni who had held so many silver medals finally achieved to win the gold U73kg.

All Japan final U60kg in Linz for Yamato Fukuda
The title for men U60kg at the Grand Prix Upper Austria in Linz went to Japan. The first men’s category at the Tips Arena in Linz had offered some fast judo. Current junior world champion at -60 kg, Yamato Fukuda had to face compatriot Yusei Adachi, his only result so far, a gold at a junior European cup last year. Adachi came close to sealing the victory early with a nifty turnover but he only managed to hold the osae-komi for 3 seconds, denying himself a score and a lead. It turns out that this was a massive missed opportunity as he went on to give away penalties and Fukuda won the gold medal, his second medal on the WJT.

The Huh sisters want to conquer the world aiming for LA
One of the bright stars of the -57kg division is South Korea’s Huh Mimi, 22 years old. She stunned the judo world when she won the World title in 2024, defeating Canada’s Christa Deguchi. Lesser known is her younger sister, Huh Mio, 20, a World Junior bronze medalist.

Men's coach Daniel Fernandes helps the French team to take the victory
Daniel Fernandes (FRA) could be found all weekend around the warm-up mat or in the athletes’ tribune of the Accor Arena Bercy in Paris. He is a familiar face there, almost part of the furniture, but his attendance this year is different from that of previous years. Dany won the Tournoi de Paris twice, adding to his 3 European and two world medals, making him a household name in France.
