Nikoloz Sherazadishvili earned his support and Tbilisi gold
The final for men U100kg in Tbilisi was a duel between Nikoloz Sherazadishvili, supported by the public, and a vengeful Shady Elnahas that we witnessed in the final. Big attacks could be expected. Sherazadishvili started as earlier in the day, with some difficulties putting his hands on his opponent's judogi, while Elnahas was attacking more but the Canadian's uchi-mata that came after this observation round was not prepared enough and against an athlete of the caliber of the double world champion, you can’t afford any mistake.

Nikoloz Sherazadishvili successfully operated
Double World Champion of Spain Nikoloz Sherazadishvili was operated successfully in the new year. The tall Spaniard got a new cruciate ligament, but ‘Everything went well’ according to the world champion of 2018 and 2021. The Olympic Games were his last event in his old weight category U90kg with a seventh place. Last year in Sofia he took a bronze medal in his division U100kg and he took silver at the Grand Slams in Antalya and Abu Dhabi and took bronze in Budapest.

Kyle Reyes finally has a gold medal at a Grand Slam
The final for men U100kg in Abu Dhabi's Grand Slam was the most tense of all, with two athletes very sure of what they were doing, very strong in their arms and legs, a clean fight in which both wanted to score because they are two pure attackers. Spaniard Nikoloz Sherazadishvili tried to impose his uchi-mata and Canadian Shady Kyle Reyes tried to counteract it but on Sherazadishvili's last attempt, the referees deemed him diving and he was disqualified. Reyes won the gold, the Spaniard the silver.

Flashback: Nikoloz Sherazadishvili writes new history for Spanish judo
Spain cheers for Nikoloz Sherazadishvili as first Spanish man to take the world title since the first World Championships in 1951. Sherazadishvili was the most consistent during day 5 in Baku and he finished his match with a great uchimata after again a long contest, two minutes in extra time. Born in Tbilisi Georgia and moved to Spain in 2011. Now it's five years later after his first of two world titles.

Jorge Fonseca wins battle of the world champions
We know that Jorge Fonseca is a showman and he proved it again in the final but in a very respectful way. It becomes a habit, a good one for him, less pleasing for others; once again, the double world champion Jorge Fonseca (POR) qualified for the final in Antalya. The Portuguese judoka always impresses. A real unbreakable block, he shows incomparable power while being a fine technician, often perfectly placed. This combination of strength and technique makes him close to unbeatable. An important question nevertheless was on everyone's lips before the final, since we were happy to find Nikoloz Sherazadishvili (ESP) there.
