Olympic heroes: Mashu Baker
Mashu Baker won the Olympic title in Rio De Janeiro in 2016 in the -90 kg category. In 2016 he had one goal, to become Olympic champion. The IJF spoke to him how he achieved his goal.

Mashu Baker back on podium with gold
Former Olympic Champion Mashu Baker was the most exciting name among the winners of the Kodokan Cup in Chiba on Sunday. Baker hadn’t been active on the mat since 2019. In 2019 he didn’t make it to the quarter finals of the Grand Slam in Osaka as last remarkable result. This weekend he qualified for the last Grand Slam of the year in Tokyo in December by winning the Kodokan Cup in his class U90kg.

6 years ago: Japanese Mashu Baker became the Olympic Champion, the 21-year old star was the most solid in a race for the gold where many favourites had to leave the Arena earlier than they hoped. Cheng Xunzhao was the surprise of the day winning the bronze medal after knocking out three European medal candidates in the preliminaries. In the semi final he lost to Baker, but came back in the match for bronze against Otgonbaatar Lkhagvasuren of Mongolia who finished fifth.

Mashu Baker back in the Tour with Grand Prix gold
Three time continental medalist Colton Brown (USA) was on fire today in the men's U90kg weight division at the Grand Prix in Montreal. He entered the final for the first time on the occasion of a Grand Prix to be opposed to the current Olympic Champion, Baker Mashu, who had an amazing series of wins during the morning session, winning three of his matches by ippon and one by waza-ari.

Olympic Champion Mashu Baker injured
Japan's Olympic gold medalist Mashu Baker will skip this week's Dusseldorf Grand Slam due to a right hamstring injury. 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic champion Baker, will miss the qualifier for the world championships in Tokyo held in August.
