Preview U48kg Tashkent: An all-Japan final between Tonaki and Tsunoda?
Urantsetseg Munkhbat. Distria Krasniqi. Daria Bilodid. These were all big names in the U48kg division but all are gone now. Mongolia’s Munkhbat has turned to MMA it seems. Kosovo’s Krasniqi has moved back up to U52kg, which was always her preferred weight class. Ukraine’s Bilodid, meanwhile, has jumped up two weight classes to U57kg.

Mongolian judo lightweight Urantsetseg Munkhbat retires and continues in MMA
Mongolia's judo lightweight Urantsetseg Munkhbat (31) announced her retirement in judo and will be focusing on a career in Mixed Martial Arts. Munkhbat became World Champion 2013 in Rio de Janeiro. She competed three times at the Olympic Games in 2012 when she finished seventh, in Rio 2016 when she just missed out on the medal and last year in Tokyo where she secured the bronze medal for het country Mongolia.

Tonaki and Bilodid on course for world title U48kg
No major surprises so far in the preliminaries for the women’s division U48kg at the World Championships in Japan. The favourites progressed to the quarter finals and a final between Funa Tonaki and defending World Champion Daria Bilodid is still possible. For that final Bilodid will first have to defeat 2013 World Champion Urantsetseg Munkhbat of Mongolia.
