Unique Dutch heavyweight final won by Jelle Snippe
For the first time ever in the IJF World Tour the Netherlands had two finalist in the heayvyweight category. Two Dutch athletes qualified after struggling tooth and nail during the preliminaries. Jelle Snippe was the one who this time grabbed gold in Antalya after being in the Paris final this year against Teddy Riner. This edition Roy Meyer was his opponent. Unique final, something that neither Henk Grol vs Roy Meyer, or Jur Spijkers didn’t even realise together.

Jur Spijkers smells Olympic chances after golden start in Zagreb
The last final of the Grand prix in Zagreb and of the competition saw Jur Spijkers of The Netherlands and Vladut Simionescu (ROU) compete for gold. They were the top seeded competitors of the category and won all their matches by ippon. Spijkers will go for his chances. He beat Roy Meyer previously and Henk Grol retired in his division. Nonetheless an international gold medal is the first way to start the pace.

Sanne van Dijke nominated for Tokyo Olympic Games
The selection committee of the Dutch Judo Association has appointed Sanne van Dijke, Guusje Steenhuis and Henk Grol for the Olympic Games. The board will nominate the judoka at the Dutch Olympic Committee NOC * NSF for the participation in Tokyo. In all three weight classes U70kg, U78kg and +100 kg, there was a severe competition for which a selection committee had to make a judgment which judoka is attributed the greatest chance of a medal.

Henk Grol knows what to do for an Olympic medal
In the Netherlands, the decision has been made who is nominated for the Olympic Games in Tokyo in the heavyweight category + 100kg. Henk Grol is going to the Games for the fourth time in his career and will try to claim a third medal. The battle with Roy Meyer in this Olympic cycle was by no means a neat battle that resulted in a huge clash. A dirty fight that didn't look good on the mat. Everything that had built up over years came out in that first minute. Brutal behavior from Roy Meyer and a disrespectful reaction from Grol after he beat Meyer by ippon.

New dynamics spice up heavyweight category
The 2015 edition of the European Games in Baku was won by Dutchman Henk Grol in the final against Lukas Krpalek. In fact not many people remember it was U100kg. Both big boys stepped up rather easily to this level and again reached the highest level in the plus category. In fact it also made their life much easier. No more health problems, dropping weight, days of frustration, the body that protests against so many sacrifices.
