Andreja Leski enjoyed the five contests and continues the legacy of Slovenia
Andreja Leski of Slovenia became the Olympic champion, continuing the incredible legacy of Slovenian women in judo. She is the third Slovenian woman to win the title in the last four Olympic cycles, following Urska Zolnir in 2012 and Tina Trstenjak in 2016. In the final, Leski faced Prisca Awiti-Alcaraz of Mexico. The Mexican started strong, scoring a waza-ari with her lightning-fast tomoe-nage, but Leski leveled up, eventually throwing Awiti-Alcaraz for waza-ari and securing the win with a second score.

Tina Trstenjak finishes against her greatest rival
Tina Trstenjak has officially retired from competition but it has been a long timing. She had not competed since the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, where she got the silver medal. She did not exactly finish her career at the very top but she was very close to it, making quite a triumphant comeback to end up in the final of the Olympics.

Miku Takaichi takes gold and shows huge international comeback
There were times that three women dominated the IJF World Tour and all the big prizes in the category for women U63kg. Clarisse Agbegnenou, Tina Trstenjak and Miku Takaichi, also known as Miku Tashiro. For the time being at the 54th place in the world, but she will rose fast after the victory at the Grand Slam in Tokyo this weekend where she showed her skills once more after her Kodokan Cup win a few weeks ago.

Miku Tashiro back in the picture winning Kodokan Cup
At the Kodokan Cup in Chiba the women fought for the medals. The Kodokan is considered an important tournament to get access to international competitions such as the Grand Slam in Tokyo, the last Grand Slam this year. The most eyecatching name on the podium was Miku Tashiro, in fact with Clarisse Agbegnenou and Tina Trstenjak the leading women in international judo in the U63kg category. Since they left the international scene it left a huge gap where Megumi Horikawa filled in the world title.

Preview U63kg Tashkent: Horikawa may be the dark horse
The U63kg division used to be dominated by three players: Yarden Gerbi (ISR), Tina Trstenjak (SLO) and Clarisse Agbegnenou (FRA), who made that category one of the most exciting to watch. Then Gerbi retired and it was down to just Trstenjak and Agbegnenou. But both of them are not competing in Tashkent, which leaves the field wide open, with no clearly dominant player expected to sweep the category.
