Golden Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard strong in Tbilisi
Number one seed, Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard started her engines after a rather balanced first 3 minutes of the final in Tbilis for women U63g against last year's European bronze medallist, Angelika Szymanska (POL). The last minute was fast approaching, when Beauchemin-Pinard managed to launch her seoi-otoshi for an important waza-ari.

Canadian Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard leads the pack U63kg
To keep the number one slot U63kg from the weight below not only in Pan America but in Canada specifically, Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard has worked incredibly hard. Following the retirement and the temporary absence of Tina and Clarisse respectively, pole position has been up for grabs and it was the Canadian who chose to work hard enough to earn it.

Athletes jump in the world ranking after collecting 700 points
No direct changes this week after the Oceania Open in Perth and Georgia still strong in the men’s categories with three World Ranking leaders: Grigalashvili, Maisuradze and Sulamanidze. Canada and Italy both have two world ranking leaders in Scutto and Bellandi (ITA) and Deguchi and Beauchemin-Pinard.

Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard gives double joy to Canada
The big favourite in the category, Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard, had every intention of imitating her U57kg teammates, Deguchi and Klimkait, the finalists on day one. A bronze medallist in Tokyo in 2021 and regularly present on international podia, Beauchemin-Pinard was not bothered too much by pressure and passed through the elimination phases with ease. At 29 years old and sitting at fifth place in the world, the Canadian judoka seems to have mastered her judo.

Laura Fazliu suddenly Olympic medal candidate for Kosovo
The final of the Budapest Masters for women U63kg was perhaps not quite the one expected at the beginning of the day but once here and seeing it unfold, it was possible to see the Kosovan Laura Fazliu as the eventual gold medallist. Tactically and physically she measured the fight. Megumi Takaichi is no pushover though and her feeling for counters and her ability to anticipate are truly elite and she was always ready for the next attack, applying her own strong left-handed gripping as preparation for something big. Fazliu who discreetly took the opportunity to slip into the final, in a quarter of the table where the seeded Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard (CAN) was eliminated prematurely.

At the second day of the Grand Slam in Tel Aviv Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard (CAN) and Maylin Del Toro Carvajal (CUB) proved to be the most fit today, when both qualified for the final after matches U63kg where they sometimes had to draw on deeply buried reserves.
