EJU Athletic Commission member Aleksandar Kukolj recommends simplicity of judo
Aleksandar Kukolj, a member of the European Judo Union's Athletic Commission, recently expressed his concerns regarding judo's evolving rule set. In his detailed message, Kukolj argued that recent changes in judo regulations have not been sufficiently tested or critically evaluated before being implemented. He believes that the resulting rules, though intended to modernize and improve the sport, often end up introducing further complications and inconsistencies that detract from both the athletes’ and viewers’ experiences.

World Champion Arman Adamian grabs gold again in Abu Dhabi
The final for men U100kg at the Grand Slam of Abu Dhabi could have been a tactical masterclass between the coiled spring that is Arman Adamian (AIN) and the metaphorical chess player, Aleksandar Kukolj but it was in the very first exchange that Adamian came in from a long way out and applied a reaching ko-uchi-gari that drove Kukolj on to his back for ippon. The world champion takes gold in Abu Dhabi too.

Zelym Kotsoiev pleasures the home crowd in Baku with gold
In the final of the men’s U100kg at the Baku Grand Slam the crowd uninhibited and chanted Zelym Kotsoiev’s name. Just as Nemanja Majdov had been gazumped him his final, so was Aleksandar Kukolj. The Serbian attacked the home athlete’s front leg but Kotsoiev’s balance was too good and instead Kotsoiev extended his attacked leg and took out Kukolj’s far foot, turning into him as they went to the floor. It was a perfect example of the need to assimilate basic judo principles such as timing and balance. Kotsoiev has both and used both.

Lots of surprises U90kg at day three in Minsk
What an amazing battle field in the category U90kg where World Champion Nikoloz Sherazadishvili lost too early against Swiss Ciril Grossklaus. It was just one of those surprises. 2017 European Champion Aleksandar Kukolj lost to Mikail Ozerler, the world’s runner up of 2017 who reached the final. Another Serbian Nemanja Majdov, 2017 World Champion, lost to Frazer Chamberlain (GBR) where Dutchman Noël van ‘t End won this pool and defeated Axel Clerget on the road.

Aleksandar Kukolj defeats world champion Sherazadishvili in The Hague final
Serbian technician Aleksandar Kukolj had the measure of world champion Nikoloz Sherazadishvili of Spain in the U90kg category as the anticipated and mouthwatering final lived up to its expectations. Ekaterinburg Grand Slam winner Kukolj needed only 39 seconds to defeat the owner of the red backpatch at U90kg by ippon from a low seoi-otoshi.
