Laura Martinel Receives the IOC Coaches Lifetime Achievement Awards 2023
Coach Laura Alejandra Martinel OLY will forever be associated with the outstanding results of Paula Pareto (ARG), who became world and Olympic champion in the women’s U48 kg category, while studying and successfully becoming a doctor of medicine. Before that, Laura had already proven to be a great judo coach as she accompanied Daniela Krukower on her way to a world title in Osaka in 2003; she was Daniela's coach from her arrival in Argentina until her retirement from competition.

Is a young judo coach a good bet
With young coaches such as Yuri Alvear, who will become a mother soon, but also the recently retired An-Chang-Rim of Korea and Antoine Valois-Fortier from Canada, the judo world can look out for new wind and energy in the world of coaches. With the retirement of other meaningful athletes such as Masashi Ebinuma, Sally Conway, Paula Pareto, Majlinda Kelmendi, Miklos Ungvari, Yarden Gerbi and many others, judo will definitely have a choice. New changes are made in this new Olympic cycle that will start in 2022.

With a seventh place at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and lots of challenges for the future, Argentina’s 2016 Olympic Champion Paula Pareto says farewell to her judo career. She won her first contest but lost against Funa Tonaki and Catarina Costa for a chance on another medal fight.

24 août 2015, Paula Pareto devient championne du monde de judo - ÀBLOCK!
Médaillée de bronze aux Jeux Olympiques de Pékin en 2008, Paula Pareto n’a pas dit son dernier mot. La judokate, tout juste médaillée d’argent aux Jeux Panaméricains, à Toronto, vient réclamer son dû aux championnats du monde : l’or !

Paula Pareto is not a member of the medical commission, but she is Olympic and World champion, as well as being a hospital doctor. Paula is one of a few judoka who help to fight the coronavirus.
