Natsumi Tsunoda clear favourite for title U48kg
At the first judo day Natsumi Tsunoda is currently No. 4 in the Olympic Rankings but there's no question she's the top prospect for gold. Everyone knows she likes to do tomoe-nage but no one seems able to stop it. Lately, she's added the Mollaei reverse kata-guruma into her repertoire too.

Joonhwan Lee defeats Casse for gold U81kg in Tokyo
Four world champions in the rostrum in the category U81kg at the Tokyo Grand Slam but none of them were able to take the title as Joonhwan Lee of Korea snatched the gold medal. Matthias Casse (BEL), Saied Mollaei (AZE) and Sagi Muki (ISR) were joined by current Olympic champion Takanori Nagase (JPN), only Casse made it past the pool stages.

Zelim Tckaev successor of Mollaei with Baku gold U81kg
Another Azeri victory to confirm the status of the strong judo loving country, with gold for Zelim Tckaev who captured the gold medal for men U81kg with not the worst athletes in the roster. It was ultimately Zelim Tckaev though, who ignited the crowd in the second part of the draw. The Azeri judoka indeed allowed the host country to dream of a new gold medal.

Fourth Grand Slam victory for Matthias Casse in extreme field
Ten of the world’s top 20 athletes U81kg were in the starting grid of the Grand Slam in Antalya, with Casse seeded one and Mollaei two and both reached the final.

Tato Grigalashvili wins second IJF Masters U81kg
The final of the World Judo Masters in Jerausalem in tfhe category U81kg was between Tato Grigalashvili (GEO) and Saeid Mollaei (AZE). They are two of the most dynamic fighters on the circuit and always draw a crowd. It was a gymnastic drama right before our eyes eventually concluded in golden score when Mollaei attacked but Tato’s te-waza seemed somehow inspired, controlling the Azerbaijani former world champion on to his back. It was gold for Georgia In Israel.

Saeid Mollaei takes gold in Baku for Azerbaijan
At the Grand Slam in Baku Saeid Mollaei fought with all his heart, committed to giving back to this country and when he is at his best, he is pretty much unbeatable and so he screeched to a halt in the final with 3 wins behind him. There was only one possible option to build a blockade on his path to gold and that was 3-time world medallist, Belgium’s Matthias Casse. Their styles clash but their professionalism is a 100% match and so the final proved to be a thing of beauty.
